Final Fantasy VIII: The Restless Ages
-=The Storyline=-
The Restless Ages...
The Restless Ages came after what people call 'the Great Battle.' All countries made great progress and 11 anxious years went by before people finally considered themselves free of danger. With no new evidence another sorceress gaining power, the whole thing became more of a myth with each generation. But there were those who would always remember, those who had been there for the final confrontation. The massive amounts of energy released by defeating Ultimecia brought the aging process of the SeeD group to a grinding halt.
After the initial return to Balamb Garden, the group split up in an effort to prevent anything similar from happening. Squall Leonhart, the leader of the famous SeeD squad dispatched to fight the Sorceress, took up the post of Balamb’s Headmaster. Quistis Trepe and Zell Dincht remained in Balamb as SeeD instructors. Under the supervision of these three, Garden functions returned to normal, and Balamb saw some of its greatest years.
Balamb as a town entered a time of great prosperity as hopeful SeeD candidates flooded the small town, allowing it to grow into a bustling port town.
Irvine Kinneas and Selphie Tillmit returned to Galbadia and Trabia Garden respectively, as Balamb delegates to advocate a union between the gardens. Rinoa Heartilly, after pursuing a brief romance with Squall, returned to Esthar to convince them to discontinue their isolation, and also to assist Dr. Odine.
Almost thirty more years passed, still the sign of any possible threats remained invisible and people continued their lives. To most individuals, the Sorceress and the chaos she symbolized became nothing more than a myth. Those who knew of the realities were more inclined to forget it had ever happened and refrained from passing the knowledge to their children and grandchildren. Everyone was blissfully ignorant of what may lie ahead.
There was a rude awakening as several prominent SeeD members were murdered. If the general public were more vigilant, if they weren’t trying to forget the chaotic pass of the land, they might have realized that each of the murdered people had been thrust into the limelight by their actions against the previous Sorceress. Unfortunately, only the heads of the Gardens, the ones who still harbored the true goal of the society, could see it in the beginning.
A group, proclaiming themselves Guardian Union of Increment Longing Transcending Yearning also known as G.U.I.L.T.Y., sprung up almost instantly. Recruiting scouts scoured the cities looking for potential members. They spread talk of the Sorceress’ powers and how the only way to ensure a continued peace was to follow her command.
With the links between the Garden’s severed once again; they slowly drifted apart. Galbadia vowed to destroy any and all Sorceresses and crush what they considered to be a rebellion against organized society. Meanwhile Balamb and Trabia took a more peaceful approach. They would let any Sorceress live as long as they were not a threat to the world.
There different approaches were destined to intertwine and come to conflict, but they'd cross those bridges once they reached them... This is only the beginning.
